The Money Changers in the Temple

Matthew21:12-13
Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.

The forest has been known to block
Our view of all the trees.
Likewise, we let familiar things
Obscure what each one sees.

We get caught up in “what we know”
And forget what is true.
We practice all the rituals
But we don’t include You.

We say the words we think we mean,
But still don’t understand
That words are hollow without faith
To live as You command.

You showed us the path we should walk
If we want to find You
Then we made changes here and there,
Just a small change or two,

Till we no longer saw the path
That You laid out ahead.
We saw the easy road we made,
And followed it instead.

So, now You come to Your temple
And whip us to our knees.
How dare You clear out our forest,
That we might see Your trees?
