Psalm 99:8-9

Psalm 99:8-9
Lord our God, you answered them; you were to Israel a forgiving God, though you punished their misdeeds. Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his holy mountain, for the Lord our God is holy.

In arrogance we say to Him,
I have things well in hand.
There is no problem that’s outside
The program I have planned.

We boldly lay our daily plans
And go forth in our pride
Thinking that we can take what comes
And manage it in stride.

But when our plans begin to fail
And we call out to Him
He answers every call with love,
But life can still be grim.

For sin has its consequences,
And pride is still a sin.
The lessons unlearned the first time
Must then be learned again.

But He does not dwell in anger,
His lessons come with grace,
And mercy accents lessons learned
Until joy takes its place.
