Humble Pie - Re-Posted

I’m still working on humble, Lord,
And maybe patient, too.
But when things get out of control
I find I turn to You.

By seeking You, I find myself,
Humbled and touched by shame,
Once more on track to live life in
The shadow of Your name.

Yet it is that weakness, Oh Lord,
That helps me bear with love
The flaws in others, so like those,
That You forgive me of.

So I will work on patience, now,
And humility, too,
That someday, with a little grace,
I’ll draw closer to You.

Ephesians 4:2
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Climbing Up - Re-Posted

I climbed as high as I could climb
To catch a glimpse of You.
I wanted to see heaven from
An unobstructed view.
I turned my eyes toward the stars
Hoping I might see through
All of the sinful things I’ve done
That block my view of You.

I could not see You, though I climbed
As high as I could be,
But somehow, in my heart, I knew
That You, Lord, could see me.
So I stood there, within Your sight,
And prayed someday I’d see
The face of Christ, who knows my sins,
Yet died to set me free.

Job 22:12
“Is not God in the heights of heaven? And see how lofty are the highest stars!

The Test - Re-Posted

You ask this of me once again,
Though I’ve failed in the past.
Is this a test I must retake
Until I pass, at last?

Or is it more important, Lord,
That I do as You ask?
Is learning to obey in faith
The more important task.

Whatever it might be, my Lord,
That brings me here again,
I’ll face the test yet one more time
And trust in Your great plan.

Never Fail - Re-Posted

I woke up with a joyful heart
To greet the dawning day,
Though all the clouds were streaked with tears
And the skies thick and gray.
For, though the world was sad and grim,
My spirit would not quail.
You are the source of my delight
And you will never fail.

Isaiah 51:6
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever, my righteousness will never fail.

He Stills the Storm - Re-Posted

When life becomes overwhelming
I settle in your peace.
I seek the place where whirlwinds stop,
Where chaos finds surcease.

There, where silence washes the shore
With simple, golden light,
Stillness ripples through quiet waves
Just off the edge of night

And I can hear you speak to me
Where mind and heart are still.
That’s why I go to meet you there,
That’s why I always will.

Psalm 107:29
He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.

Sing to the Lord - Re-Posted

Sing to the Lord with all your heart,
In all things praise His name,
For His love is a gift to all,
Regardless of our shame.

Sing to the Lord, rejoice in Him,
For He's the hope of all.
Lift up your voices in His Praise,
That He might hear your call.

Sing to the Lord, oh join me now,
For God is on His throne
And He will hear you when you call.
You'll never be alone!

Psalm 71:14
As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more.

Blessings That Last - Re-Posted

Some look at life and see what they’ve lost
But that can’t be said of me.
I look at all that I’ve had and lost
And thank God for what will be.

There’s always new beauty born in spring
And summer’s harvest is sweet
I may not have everything I want,
But my life’s full and complete.

So I don’t look at last year’s lost blooms
And morn the seasons now past
Instead I rejoice for what’s to come
And the blessings that will last!

Psalm 21:6
Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.

Rejoice Each Day

I know today may well be rough,
In truth, there is no easy way.
Yet God made each day what it is…
Rejoice and be glad in the day.

Don’t let the day take hope from you.
Before you start take time to pray,
Then step out with a faithful heart…
Rejoice and be glad in the day.

Thus, when you come to every snag,
You’ll have the strength you need to say
I’m a child of the Most High God…
Rejoice and be glad in the day.

Though you may fall along the path
Or find that you have gone astray,
Your faith and joy will see you through…
Rejoice and be glad in the day.

God has given this day to you,
Though it will soon pass away.
Make it a tribute to The Lord!
Rejoice and be glad in the day!

Psalm 118:24
The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.

The Gift - Revised and Re-posted

What is the difference in the dawn
And the depths of the night?
One has the sun and one the moon.
The gift is in the light.

Life can look very grim sometimes,
As shadows close in tight,
But that same view can change to joy.
The gift is in the light

So I try to live where the sun
Brushes back on the night
And focus where the light is rich…
The Gift is in the Light!

John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Here Am I, Lord

Here I am, Lord, I heard You call,
And I will answer You.
Lord, I will rise and, joyously,
Do all You ask me to.

Here I am, Lord, I rise to serve
For You have called my name.
You have a task I need to do,
You called, Lord, and I came.

Here I am, Lord, I’m swift to rise
And answer when You call.
Send me, Lord. I’ll do this task,
However great or small.

Isaiah 6:8

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Keep My Eyes On You - Re-Posted

Through all the days still left to me
I’ll turn my eyes to You
And walk in faith where You lead me
Because You ask me to.

However dark my way may be,
I’ll keep my eyes on You.
Down all of life’s hard, twisted paths
I know You’ll lead me through.

And in the darkness of each night
I’ll ponder on Your ways,
And when the sun rises again
I’ll offer You fresh praise.

Then in the glory of the dawn
When life is rich with grace,
I’ll still keep my eyes turned to You
Until I see Your face!

Psalm 119:148
My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises.

Flying By Faith - Re-Posted

A long journey lies ahead,
But they rise in the dawn
And turn their faces to the wind.
Their instinct leads them on.

They do not doubt the way ahead,
Nor question why they go.
They simply know they’re called to fly.
That’s all they need to know.

But it’s not instinct that lifts me
When I’m afraid to try,
I call to You when I need strength
To face my fears and fly.

I’m not a creature of instinct,
But some things still hold true.
While they rise-up because they must,
I rise by faith in You.

Where is My Faith?

I know I left it somewhere, Lord,
But I am not sure where.
I might have left it around here
Or maybe over there.

I know I had it before, Lord,
But it is missing now.
I don’t know how I lost it, but
I must find it somehow.

I had my faith right here with me,
But trouble came my way
And now I can’t find it at all.
It’s somehow gone astray.

Help me to find it once again,
I can’t have gone too far.
I'm pretty sure I left it, Lord,
Exactly where You are.

Luke 8:25
“Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”

Have Faith and Lean In - Re-Posted

Sometimes headway is hard to make
When storms seem without end,
But faith can help find the way through.
Just lean into the wind.

Don't let the storms blow you off track,
Before long they'll be gone.
Remember, praise Him in all things,
Lean in and just push on.

Each life will have its share of storms,

They come, but then they go.
So call on Him who still all storms,
Then lean into the blow.

Matthew 8:24-25
Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

Faith and Breaking Free - Re-Posted

When a sadness ensnares my heart
And trickles past my smile,
I know that, with a faith filled heart,
I’ll break free in a while.

For there is no snare formed on earth
That holds the faith filled heart,
And any effort to do so
Is doomed before its start.

So, when I feel the snare snap tight,
I close my eyes and pray,
And, as the faith fills up my heart,
I smile and slip away.

Psalm 124:7
We have escaped like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped.

Life Among Thorns - Re-Posted

When I begin to listen to
The dark whispers of woe,
I step back and remind myself
Of something I well know.

However rough my world may seem,
My life is still easy.
There are so many in world
Who suffer more than me.

When I wake up, I’m safe and warm,
As when I went to sleep.
And I don’t spend my days in fear
Fighting the urge to weep.

No life is perfect, without pain,
Yet mine is quite replete,
For though I walk among the thorns
The blossom is still sweet.

Just a Trace - Re-Posted

He sits alone upon the bough
His gaze turned heavenward.
For that is where he thinks he’ll see
The true face of the Lord.

He never turns his gaze aside
For fear he’ll miss the chance
To see God in His heaven there,
Even a passing glance.

And all the while he seeks for God
In heaven’s distant face,
He fails to see God is right there
In his familiar space.

For God created heaven’s sweep
And all the earth below.
All those who seek Him need but look
In places that they know.

He’s in the blossom on the stem,
The bird singing at dawn.
He soars, and roars and swims the seas,
He is the resting fawn.

One need not watch heaven alone
When searching for His face,
For you can see Him in yourself,
If only just a trace.

Nehemiah 9:6
You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their tarry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.

Just Passing Through

I know that I’m just passing through
But You have work for me to do,
And I’d do anything for You
Simply because You ask me to!

You took the broken, made it new,
You healed my sins, more than a few,
You showed me truths I never knew
And I will live this life for You.

Though I know I’m just passing through,
You’ve given me a task or two.
With all my heart, I’ll gladly do
The work that You have called me to!

Psalm 90:17
May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.

In Reconciliation - Re-Posted

I was so far from your command
I couldn’t hear your voice
And I was backing further off
With every losing choice.

But you still loved me faithfully
And we were reconciled,
Not by my words or by my deeds,
For both were fierce and wild,

But by your blood and by your love
Was I restored to life
And lifted from the world I knew,
A world of fear and strife.

Now, through your love we’re reconciled,
And I’ve a brand new start.
I’ll keep reconciliation
Alive within my heart.

2 Corinthians 5:18-19
All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

Living Proof - Re-Posted

It’s just a tiny purple bloom
That I hold in my hand,
And yet it bears resemblance to
Something that’s far more grand.
For in her face I see the sun,
Her petals, its bright rays,
And her life is a reflection
Of old Sol’s cheery ways.

Thus can, also, a lump of clay,
Formed by immortal hand,
Reflect dimly the Good Lord’s Grace…
Here, joyful proof, I stand!

Genesis 1:27
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

The Edge of Night

The years are passing swiftly now,
Who knows what lies ahead.
And that’s what frightens me the most
When sleep avoids my bed.

I stand upon an endless edge
With no one by my side
And all the doubts I hold at bay
Will not remain denied.

Yet when I feel the most alone,
When fear taints what should be,
I hear the words You spoke before
To others much like me.

“Don’t be afraid, you’re not alone
And I will never leave,
So there is no reason to fear.
My child, trust and believe.”

I keep those words locked in my heart,
Safely hidden away,
And when the night seems far too long
I think on them and pray.

And as this day draws to its close,
With darkness just ahead,
I whisper, “I am not alone”,
And the night holds less dread.

Deuteronomy 31:8
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
