Taking the Time For Joy

The morning dawns with summer’s warmth
Still lightening the air,
Though autumn shades gild the leaf tips
Of some trees here and there.

We look with anxious eyes to fall,
To cool and dark’ning skies,
While summer’s aspect lingers still
Before our careless eyes.

Why must we dwell on things to come,
However sure they are,
When, for the moment, joy is near
And trouble’s still afar.

Its one thing to prepare for it,
Another to despair;
When we can store up joy today
To hold in times of care.

So let tomorrow’s sorrow wait
Until tomorrow’s here.
Be prepared, and then take time
To live today with cheer.
