Learning Mercy

Yes, blessed are the merciful,
For they will know mercy,
And I will stand and testify
To the mercy shown me.

I’ve learned to offer much more grace
Than I did in the past,
And I have all the scars to show
From lessons that will last.

I tended to face every day
With fists raised up to fight,
So much that I felt agonized
In evening’s fading light.

Yet, slowly, as the years went by
I learned to offer grace.
Instead of anger, I let peace
And mercy take its place.

I’m still a work that’s in progress,
And I always will be,
But I have learned to offer grace,
And to treasure mercy.

Matthew 5: 7
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
