The Joy of Gathering

I almost didn’t make it there,
But You said that I should.
I went, despite the wind and gloom,
Just like You knew I would.

The words I heard lifted me up,
The songs brightened my day,
But, what I treasured most of all,
Were those You sent my way.

The faces I’ve missed for so long
Were there for me to see.
A gift of joy beyond compare
Was what it seemed to me.

The dark half of the year can weigh
Upon us now and then,
But, when we gather in His name,
The joy shines out again.

I’m grateful for the wisdom shared,
The hymns I got to sing,
But I’m most grateful for the joy
That comes with gathering!
