Shore Birds

They met upon a windy shore
As if purely by chance,
But it was not the swirling wind
That stirred their little dance.

No, it was the half loaf of bread
That brought them face to face
With one offering blessings to
The one demanding grace.

How like the prayers we raise to God
With all our “Lord, give me’s”.
He gladly offers what we need
Even without our pleas.

And though He gives generously,
We keep asking for more
Instead of saying, “Thank You, Lord”.
We’re that bird on the shore.
