The Feeder and the Humnmingbirds

I thought that it was futile,
I hadn’t seen the proof.
I thought it would go unseen
Tucked up under the roof.

At last I saw one settle in,
My eyes were not deceived,
The hummers really found it
Though I had not believed.

It seemed that they were drinking,
But my eyes had not seen
Their little feathered faces
Outside my window screen.

Why was it so hard for me
To just take it on trust?
Why must I doubt the unseen
And why is proof a must?

Yes, sometimes faith is harder
Than doubting what should be,
But faith will take us farther
Than just what we can see.
