Waves of Sorrow

It strikes me like a crashing wave
Out of a still, calm sea.
From peaceful joy, sorrow sweeps in
And brings me to my knee.

I cannot think, I cannot speak
As pain sweeps through my heart,
And I know they will never stop,
If I let the tears start.

Oh Lord, You’re all I can cling to
When those waves pull me down.
You are the rock beneath my feet,
And You won’t let me drown.

I know that the waves will draw back,
Peace will return once more,
But until then, I’ll cling to You
Upon that tear swept shore.

Psalm 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
