Color and Darkness

There’s a darkness in the winter
That cannot be held at bay,
But it crumbles in the sunlight
When the spring is under way.

Bright and rich, the summer’s blossoms,
Clustered in their bold array.
Lost in color is the winter,
Thoughts of darkness fade away.

Though, for now, the winter lingers,
Wrapping all my world in grey,
Still my hope filled thoughts will linger
In the blooms of yesterday.
