The Echoes

The house stands empty of all life
It’s no longer a home;
The hearts that beat here, now are still,
Their children set to roam.

Its own heart, barren of all joy,
Echoes within its walls.
Of all the heartbeats it once knew,
None answers when it calls.

It’s filled with silent promises
It can no longer keep,
Why guard the rooms and keep them warm
Where no one, now, will sleep.

It knows, in time, life will return,
The empty threshold crossed,
But, just for now, the empty house
Grieves for those it has lost.
