Denying the Lies

An inexplicable sorrow
Keeps welling up in me;
It speaks of places I can’t go,
Of people I can’t see.
It tells of laughter that is lost,
All of the tears I’ve cried.
It whispers that I’m all alone
And all I’ve loved has died.

But I know that it’s all a lie;
I watch the rising sun
And know that you watch over me
Until my work is done.
Then I will follow you back home,
As I’ve done all my life,
Where you will mend my broken heart
And heal the pain of strife.

So let the sun rise through the mist
And let the day begin,
I turn my back upon the lies
And on the old day’s sin
