Winter's Memory

The winter settles on the land
In soft, snowy array.
Holding a stillness at its heart,
As if it paused to pray.

As if it needed a moment
To gather thoughts of peace,
And find, within the soft stillness,
That joy which does not cease.

The snow hides little scrapes and scars
That show in the sun’s light
And whispers of a distant time
When one star lit the night.

There is a stillness and a peace,
In Winter’s memory
Of that first Christmas, long ago,
What it still means to me.

Luke 2:11
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
