A Gift of Gold

The sun rushed quickly through the day
As if he had some place to be;
Too brief the light, too long the night,
Too grey the windswept, misty sea.

But though the sun had shunned the day
And hurried out of mortal sight,
He did bestow a precious gift
Of golden mist flecked morning light.
