Patience and Its Lack

If patience is a virtue, Lord,
I’m not too virtuous.
Sometimes I let my temper slip;
It can be disastrous.

It’s not that things should not be said.
It’s how they leave my mouth.
I hold it in until I’m mad;
A flood after the drouth.

It’s not even the words I say
That cause me such dismay.
It’s that I let them spill in rage;
My temper on display.

Oh Lord, please help me find a way
To say what should be said,
Not with anger in my heart,
But with patience instead.

2 Timothy 4:2
Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.
