The Long Wait

And so they waited through that night
And through another day.
Then, as a second night grew long,
All they could do was pray.

They waited, despite all their grief,
Bound by an ancient law
That would not let them visit Him
To clean each bruise and flaw.

The bitter night stretched on and on,
Their sorrow grew to pain,
And tears enough to flood the earth
Fell pouring down like rain.

The moon rose up and crossed the sky
To settle back once more
But all that they could do was wait
For what might lay in store.

Luke 23:55-56
The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.
