Woe to you who claim the world
Presides over the Word,
For you have lost sight of the truth
That you have known and heard.
You place your faith in creation
And not the creator,
You live for what you hold right now
And lose what lies in store.
For all the heavens and the earth,
Though vast in their array,
Will crumble into dust once more
And then just blow away.
While He who formed them with a word
And washed them in His light
Will hold within His hand the souls
Who look with faith, not sight.
Let your hope rest, not in this world,
Its power and its gold,
But in the Word, the way, the life,
The truth that we can hold.
Matthew 23:16-17, 21-22
“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by
the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he
is bound by his oath.’ You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the
temple that has made the gold sacred?
21-22 And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and
by him who dwells in it. And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of
God and by him who sits upon it.
