Immanuel, God With Us

The road was long to Bethlehem,
But they walked all the way.
They had a prophecy to fill
On that first Christmas day.

They didn’t travel in high style,
Their path was rough and wild.
But each step led them to the birth
Of heaven’s holy child.

They may have questioned now and then,
Humbled with fear and awe,
Why they were called to bring to life
God’s immutable law.

Yet, they still walked to Bethlehem,
And on a manger floor
They brought to birth Immanuel,
God with us ever more.

Isaiah 7:14
Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

When It Becomes Real

They’d seen Him heal the sick and lame,
And help the blind to see,
But they were frightened by the storm
Upon that angry sea.

They’d sailed that sea all of their lives,
But, when that storm blew in,
It terrified them to despair
And they were lost again.

He rose within the tempest’s rage
And bade the storm be still.
Without a question or a pause
The storm answered His will.

They’d seen the miracles before,
But this one they could feel.
This one touched them, body and soul,
It was so very real.

I think I understand it now…
The miracles amazed,
But when one hit that close to home
They felt startled and dazed.

They knew He was the Son of God,
That much He had made clear,
But when He calmed the storm for them,
That truth became more dear.

Luke 8: 24
And they went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm.
