Oh, Me of Little Faith

Peter stepped in faith on the waves
When his Lord called to him,
But his faith waivered as the storm
Turned more fearsome and grim.

He took his eyes of his Lord,
But Christ’s gaze never strayed,
And when Peter began to sink
Christ heard the words he prayed.

Before he sank into the sea
Christ drew him to safety.
In much the same that He has
So often done for me.

Though I have faith in Him always,
I have small faith in me.
So, if my gaze slips off of Him,
My fears are all I see.

Those fears can swirl up over me
Until they pull me down.
If He weren’t there to lift me up,
I have no doubt I’d drown.

I may not have faith strong enough
To walk upon the waves,
But I am loved by He who does.
His is a love that saves.

Matthew 14:28-31
And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
