For They Shall Be Comforted

When all the sorrows of this life
Weigh heavy on my heart,
I bow my head beneath that weight
And let the grieving start.

A loved one lost in suffering,
A heartbreak I can’t face,
And nowhere in my darkest hour
Is there a sign of grace.

Until I raise my eyes to You,
My prayers I lift through tears
Into the hands of Him who heals
My pain and soothes my fears.

Oh, Lord, I know this world is rife
With sorrow, pain and loss.
It is as if all hope of joy
Is burned away like dross.

Yet, in my sorrow there is joy,
A silent spark of light,
That reminds me You are the one
Who overcame the night.

You are the Lord who called forth light
And shattered night’s control
Of all the worlds through all of time
And redeemed every soul.

Though I may grieve this bitter loss,
I cherish with delight
The truth that she will soon rejoice
Within Your perfect light.

Matthew 5:4
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

Love That Doesn't Fail

However wayward I have been,
You’ve always called me home,
And Your love for me doesn’t cease,
However far I roam.

Oh, Lord, how grateful is my soul,
That Your love is so strong.
For You have kept me close to You,
Where heart and soul belong.

You show me mercy every day,
Help me find Your way through,
That I may walk life’s daily path
Drawing closer to You.

Father of Heaven, I’m in awe
Of Your ceaseless mercy
And of the love that does not fail
To keep watch over me.

Lamentations 3:22-23
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

You Restore My Soul

When this world brings chaos around
And peace is hard to find,
You always knows just what I need
To ease my worried mind.

The morning held a few moments
With nothing on my list.
Thus, when I felt the nudge to go,
I chose not to resist.

The still waters, the deep green grass,
The soft clouds drifting through,
All formed a moment of pure peace,
And all a gift from You.

You heal the broken-hearted soul,
Binding up all its pain
Until the peace of heaven’s grace
Is all that will remain.

Oh Lord, please keep me on Your path,
Walking close by Your side,
That, despite all a day may bring,
Your grace and peace abide.

Psalm 23:3
He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Neither Silence Nor Darkness

Even though this world denies me,
Still I will stand with You.
There is no darkness in this world
That Your light won’t shine through.

The heavens still proclaim Your will,
Your plan is not deterred,
For even if I am silenced,
Your voice will still be heard!

Lord, I will proclaim Your glory
And sing my songs of praise.
Though all the world falls to darkness
Your Light will shine always!

John 1:9-10
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.

Keep My Eyes Fixed On You

I keep my eyes fixed on You, Lord
And follow where You lead.
Some days I feel I’m right on track,
Some days I don’t succeed.

I try to listen when You speak,
Let Your word be my guide,
And try, when I walk in the world,
To stay close by Your side.

I want to help others who seek
To find their way to You,
But I can’t do that if I’m deaf
And blind to what is true.

I pray that I have ears to hear,
All that You’re teaching me,
And that I will become someday
Who You want me to be.

I pray I keep my eyes on You,
That I listen and learn
All the wisdom You’re teaching me.
Help me, Lord, to discern.

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Faithful In Little Things

Oh, what a precious gift it was,
A neighbor’s act of grace
To help me finish up my chores
And cleaning up the place.

It really was a little thing,
But it seemed big to me.
He simply stepped up and helped out,
As gracious as can be.

As I grew weary he stepped in
To do that “little thing”,
And I saw how much true kindness
A grace-filled heart can bring.

Oh, Lord, I think he is the proof
That what You’ve said is true,
That one who’s faithful in small things,
Brings boundless joy to You.

Matthew 25:21
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’

Thank you, Michael, for being such a big blessing.

Help Us Turn Back To You

So many focus on the world,
Its distractions amuse,
But I will keep my eyes on You.
You are the life I choose.

The world whispers of its delights,
It casts disdain at You
And those who seek to heed Your word,
Honor and live it, too.

I pray each day that things will change
But that’s not up to me.
For this world answers to You, Lord,
And that’s how it should be.

I know that I have lost my way,
More than a time or two,
But, when You called me, I have turned
And hurried back to You.

You formed this world out of nothing,
It answers You alone.
Though I still pray we’ll turn around,
Some hearts seem made of stone.

Oh, Lord, I pray Your Light will shine
Upon those distracted
By all this broken world offers.
Help us seek You instead.

For only You know how this ends
For every wayward soul.
Let each one turn back to You, Lord,
To make what’s broken whole.

Job 28:23-24
“God understands the way to it, and he knows its place. For he looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.

Here I Am, Lord

We are all called to serve the Lord,
Each one in our own way.
That service isn’t without price,
But grace is ours each day.

He calls us to stand up for Him,
To honor what He taught.
He calls us to live in the Word,
The redemption He bought.

He calls us to carry the news
Of His ceaseless mercy.
For those still lost in the darkness,
Be a light they can see.

The calling comes to each of us,
And each of us must choose
To stand for Him or turn in fear
Of all there is to lose.

It may be easier to say
“Please, Lord, don’t call on me.”
Yet, that is not the child of grace
That I want me to be.

Oh Lord, please give me ears to hear
When You call out my name,
And give me faith that’s strong enough
To stand up and proclaim,
“Here I am, Lord! Send me!”

Isaiah 6:8
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

My Refuge And My Good

While others may look to the world,
I find refuge in You.
The lessons I have learned in life
Have shown me what is true…

That all the blessings I have known,
The hope and comfort, too,
I have received from You alone.
There’s no good without You.

You guard me and You guide my steps.
Despite all I pass through,
I know that You will hear my cry.
My soul’s refuge is You.

Psalm 16:1-2
Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.”

Rest And Restoration

I turn my eyes toward heaven,
My heart sings out to You.
Though I am weary, I rejoice
For You have brought me through.

When I've grown weary at week’s end,
I seek to rest in You
Knowing that I will find the strength
To rise and start anew.

I cherish each and every task
That You’ve called me to do.
Each one a chance to serve others
And bring glory to You.

I turn my eyes toward heaven,
My heart sings out to You.
In You I have all that I need
To rest and to renew!

Psalm 116:6-7
The Lord preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me. Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.

A Future And A Hope

I stand within the bounds of earth,
My feet on shifting sands,
And any hopes I have in life
Are resting in Your hands.

I can’t control what life may bring.
It comes in, wave on wave,
But I will hold on to the faith
That those You’ve called, You’ll save.

For You have promised us new life,
Our soul’s You will restore
When we have crossed from this life’s storms
To rest on heaven’s shore.

There is no greater peace than that,
As the waves thunder in,
To know You have a place reserved
For me without my sin.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

His Golden Rule

There’ve been a lot of angry words
And deeds that match their tone.
I think we need a golden rule
Reminder of our own.

Be careful of the words you speak,
Let them be born of grace,
Knowing you also need kindness
Offered in anger’s place.

Too often we forget to give
That which we truly need,
A kinder word than we deserve,
Great forbearance, indeed.

The rule was simple, treat others
As they ought to treat you.
Too often we strike out in rage
Before we’ve thought it through.

A golden rule He set in place
For those who follow Him.
We cannot truly love the Lord
With hearts bitter and grim.

Matthew 7:12
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Tears and Joy

The quiet promises of hope,
Of joy amidst the pain,
The sound of raindrops on the roof,
Sunlight woven in rain.

The world is filled with sorrows, tears,
But still sweet hope remains,
For He who called us to be His,
In majesty, still reins.

He is the joy, the light that shines,
Which darkness can’t contain.
Thus, in sorrow we still rejoice,
Light sparkles in the rain.

Psalm 126:5
Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy!

Pondering His Glory

I love to sit, to just be still
And ponder who You are,
How vast the mind, the heart, the hand
That numbers every star.

I look in wonder at this world
And my mind can’t contain
How vast and various the works
Displayed in Your domain.

I try to focus on one thing,
A bird, a cloud, the sea,
But even such small things as these
Awe and inspire me.

The intricate, the delicate,
The rugged and the strong,
Each one unique in their own right,
Settled where they belong.

The hand that formed them, knew their role
And shaped them to that need.
Each detail perfectly in place
To assure they succeed.

I sit in silence, pondering
The things I cannot know,
And rejoicing that He who does
Controls life’s ebb and flow.

Psalm 113:4
The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens!

Your Will Be Done

Your will, not mine, that is the hope
That I will walk into,
For all of heaven and the earth
Answer, alone, to You.

We may think we are in control,
Until things fall apart,
Then we call out to You for help
From the depths of our heart.

Heaven answers with joy and praise
As it obeys Your voice.
The day draws near when earth also,
Will obey and rejoice.

For now, we are still distracted
By our own grand design.
Oh Lord, I pray my heart heeds You,
That Your will becomes mine.

I’ll rise up by your will alone,
And by Your will I’ll stand.
Then, when it’s time to call me home,
I’ll rest within Your hand.

Matthew 6:10
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Fixed On You

I‘ll keep my eyes fixed upon You
As I walk through each day,
For there is no path I can’t walk
If Your light marks my way.

You set the path when You were here,
And called us to follow.
Therefore, I’ll keep my eyes on You
So I know where to go.

Your word is the path that I seek,
Your lessons are my light.
If I keep heart and mind on those
I’ll walk the path that’s right.

Lord, I’ll keep my eyes fixed on You,
Despite life’s distraction.
I’ll hold on to all You teach me
Until my journey’s done.

Psalm 119:15
I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.

His Living Water

When Caesar crossed the Rubicon
History took a turn.
Now we have a river to cross,
Or a bridge we will burn.

It’s in such times as these days hold
When we, also, must choose,
Do we cross over the river
Or burn the bridge, refuse?

Perhaps for some, it’s time to cross,
History’s due a change,
But there are those who stand to lose
Power in the exchange.

For me, I seek a third option
To joyously pursue.
I plan to walk into the flow,
Living water from You.

I don’t deny we need to change,
This world is wracked by strife,
But it is in His grace alone
That we’ll find a new life.

I won’t traverse this Rubicon,
Nor burn the bridge across.
I’ll stand in the water of life
That pours out from His cross.

John 7:38-39
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

And Walk Humbly With God

Try not to quarrel with the lost,
But speak kindly to them,
And by that grace seek to lead each,
Once more, to follow Him.

If they still seek, those lost to Him,
To squabble and to fight,
Hold to the healing in His Word,
The peace found in His Light.

If kindness does not touch their souls
Then lay them in His hand.
It’s always kinder to let go,
Than badger and demand.

For He who has done greater things
That we can know or share
Can turn a heart made out of stone
Into one formed to care.

Be just and kind, even with those
Who won’t return that grace.
Walk humbly with the Lord knowing
His plan is still in place.

Micah 6:8
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Blessed Are You

I find my heart is filled with rage,
There’s no forgiveness there.
I have to let it go somehow,
I’m called to loving care.

Though there are some who will stand up,
Proclaiming Your Word’s worth,
The demons of the great darkness
Still prowl across the earth.

They snarl and howl, demanding all
Must bow before their rule.
They proclaim lies and call them truth.
They are the devil’s tool.

Although the demons of darkness
Dance in delight today,
When they choose to serve satan’s plan,
There will be hell to pay.

Lord, take this anger from my heart,
Remind me to forgive.
For judgement is not mine to pass,
That’s Your’s alone to give.

Instead, let my prayers for the lost,
Who stood in faith with You,
Be all I raise up from this heart
That has been torn in two.

Matthew 5:11-12
“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Fixed Upon The Light

Even in darkness there is light
That no cloud can obscure.
Though I may not see it at times
It still exists. That’s sure.

Though my road may be steep and rough
At times along the way,
I have no doubt that it leads me
Straight back to You some day.

Though grief and worry weigh me down
My soul is light and free.
This world will test me, heart and mind,
But Your love has saved me.

Of all the troubles in this life
That I have to pass through,
There are none that can hide from me
The hope that lives in You.

Then let the dark clouds swirl around,
The sun will shine again!
For I have my eyes fixed upon
The Light, the Son of Man!

Luke 19:10
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

Walk On And Pray

Oh Lord, am I still on the path
That I’m supposed to walk?
Each day I rise up and go out,
Though I’ve been known to balk.

The world throws so much in my path
I worry I’m off course.
Yet, even if I end up lost,
You’re always my recourse.

I find myself wanting to stop,
To just sit down and cry.
Until I hear You urging me
To give it one more try.

I stand back up, I walk in faith,
And trust You’ll lead the way.
Some days all I can really do
Is just walk on and pray.

Lord, I will lean into Your grace
And listen to Your voice.
I’ll walk the path as You direct.
I’ll praise You and rejoice.

Psalm 143:8
Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

Oh, Me of Little Faith

Peter stepped in faith on the waves
When his Lord called to him,
But his faith waivered as the storm
Turned more fearsome and grim.

He took his eyes of his Lord,
But Christ’s gaze never strayed,
And when Peter began to sink
Christ heard the words he prayed.

Before he sank into the sea
Christ drew him to safety.
In much the same that He has
So often done for me.

Though I have faith in Him always,
I have small faith in me.
So, if my gaze slips off of Him,
My fears are all I see.

Those fears can swirl up over me
Until they pull me down.
If He weren’t there to lift me up,
I have no doubt I’d drown.

I may not have faith strong enough
To walk upon the waves,
But I am loved by He who does.
His is a love that saves.

Matthew 14:28-31
And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Even Through The Storms

The storm clouds gathered over head,
Dark rumbling filled the air,
A steady whispering of rain
Could be heard everywhere.

Yet, just as quickly as it came,
The storm vanished from sight,
Dragging the darkness in its wake
And leaving a soft light.

Then, as the last clouds slipped away,
The light began to glow.
That’s when I caught the faint glimmer
Of a fleeting rainbow.

It didn’t linger for too long,
Just long enough for me
To remember the promised made,
His love, eternally.

I hold that promise in my heart
And thank Him every day
That, even through the storms of life,
His love won’t fade away.

Genesis 9:12-13
And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

Sing For Joy, My Soul

Oh sing, my heart, proclaim with joy
That heaven’s King is Lord.
Dance every day that you have breath,
For your soul’s been restored.

Rejoice in all the works of Him
Whose Word called forth the light!
Let heart and mind fill up with joy,
Body, leap with delight.

The oceans roar, the mountains rise
The stars sweep through the sky,
And I will sing praises to Him
Who taught the clouds to fly!

Then dance and sing, rejoice with me
All You who give Him praise.
Let your delight pour out in song,
A joyful chorus raise!

Psalm 92:4
For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy.

My Gold, My Treasure

I store up treasures every day,
A wealth beyond value.
For each day when I rise from sleep
I catch a glimpse of You.

A butterfly, a summer bloom,
Sunrise across the lake,
Each one a gift You’ve given me,
A memory to take.

I may not have silver and gold,
But I have so much more.
I’m rich beyond any measure
Mankind can hoard or store.

For You give me a treasure trove
Of Your grace every day.
Your creation, a glimpse of You,
My treasure on display!

Acts 20:33
I coveted no one's silver or gold or apparel.

Holding On In Faith

When everything seems upside down
And I’m likely to fall,
I hold on faithfully knowing
That You’ll answer my call.

Right now my world’s out of control,
At least it’s out of mine.
Yet I cling faithfully to You
And to Your plan, divine.

Though I may weaken, now and then,
I won’t let go of You,
Nor of the promise of Your love.
That faith will see me through.

I’m holding on with all my faith,
And that will be enough,
Since You also hold on to me
Whenever life gets rough!

Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
