The
stillness of the night shattered
With
songs and light and praise.
The
shepherds fell on trembling knees
In
fear and in amaze.
And
though the song the angels sang
Was
one of boundless hope,
They
hunkered down in confusion
While
struggling to cope.
But
as the words the angels sang
Began
to touch each heart,
They
understood they faced, not death,
But
life and a new start.
A
joy so great it overwhelmed
Every
fear they had known
And
drove them to their feet again
To
find what they’d been shown.
It’s
hard to imagine the joy,
The
wonder they’d have felt
As
they found the long promised babe,
And,
by the manger, knelt.
Luke
2:10
But
the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will
cause great joy for all the people.
