Psalm 79:8-9

 

Psalm 79:8-9

Do not hold against us the sins of past generations; may your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need. Help us, God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name’s sake.

They say that as we see things change,

Some things remain the same.

It seems that generations have

Claimed mercy in Your name.

We ask that You forgive our sins,

But when we have not changed,

We ask that You step in and fix

What we have misarranged.

You’d think that we would figure out

What we’ve been doing wrong,

Then do our best to do as You

Have asked us all along.

Deliver us, Lord, from ourselves,

From our stupidity,

That we might pass more than mistakes

To our posterity!
