Luke
22:3-6
Then
Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. And Judas went to the
chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how
he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He
consented and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no
crowd was present.
What
touched the heart of one who walked
Beside
You every day
And
lead him to the betrayal
That
we despise today?
I
wonder, was it jealousy,
Or
was it frustration
That
You did what You came to do
And
not what he’d have done?
Did
he think if he walked with You
That
he’d find wealth and fame,
Instead
of working faithfully
In
honor of God’s name?
Perhaps
he just did not believe
What
he saw with his eyes,
And,
thus, it made it easier
To
trust in Satan’s lies.
We
cannot know what drove the choice
To
act as he had planned,
But
this we know, he sold his soul
For
silver in his hand.
