All Along

They brought their palms to praise His name

Following where He led,
And, while they sang and danced for joy,
He knew what lay ahead.
 
He knew He faced crucifixion,
A painful, brutal death.
Praying that God would forgive us
Between each gasp for breath.
 
He knew that He would suffer more
Than a mortal man should,
And He knew He would not turn back,
Though He might wish He could.
 
He knew all this, yet He rode on
Among the cheering throng
Who waved their palms to honor Him.
He knew it all along.
