Tonight's Rest

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In stillness I lie down to sleep,

Tomorrow I will rise

To watch the sun supplant the moon’s

Dominion in the skies.

 

The Lord has set His watch on me,

The Shepherd with His lamb,

And I will trust Him with my life,

My soul, and all I am.

 

Tonight I’ll rest beneath the moon

And, like tomorrow’s sun,

I’ll rise in faith and walk the path

Until my work is done.

Oh, Lord, I thank You with full heart

For shielding me in grace

Until I found my way back home,

Out of sin and disgrace.  

 

You kept me safe beneath Your wing

When I cried out in fear.

When I was lost and all alone,

I always felt You near.

 

Lord, You have never failed to love

Even a wretch like me,

And I will marvel all my days

That such a love could be.

 

Oh Lord, I thank You with full heart

For each blessing You give.

I praise You, and I always will

For as long as I live.

Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.

You are the Light in the darkness,

The hope to which I cling.

I cannot fathom how I’d live

Without the peace You bring.

 

You shine within this darkened soul

Until all I can see

Is who You’ve called me to become,

Who You formed me to be.

 

I have not fully broken free

Of all the sin and shame,

But I’ll keep walking in Your Light

And living in Your name.

In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
