The Shadow of Death

He told them that He would be back,
But they were lost in grief.
Those words of promise brought to them
No comfort or relief.

Those who had lived closest to Him,
Had never understood
That He was truly born of God
And His promise was good.

They spent that Sabbath day and night,
In the pain of their grief.
They walked in the shadow of death,
In fear, and not belief.

Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

No Greater Love

The Lord who called forth night and day,
And shaped the universe,
Himself stepped out of heaven’s might
To walk into a curse.

He left all power and command
To become just a man,
Knowing full well what it would mean,
For He had laid the plan.

The only route to redemption
Was defined before sin
Had ever laid its hand upon
The heart of broken men.

He knew that He would be the lamb
Called to the sacrifice,
But such was His love for the lost
He chose to be the price.

We have a choice to follow Him
Or simply turn away,
But our sin took all choice from Him.
There was no other way.

So He who formed the endless stars
And calls each one by name,
Became mortal and died alone
To wash away our blame.

Matthew 27: 54
When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

I Hear You Pray

I hear You pray in the garden,
You know what’s on its way.
Yet still You wait to face that death.
I still can hear You pray.

I may not have been there with You,
But I quake with the fear
Of knowing the torment and death
You knew was drawing near.

You stayed there as the Son of God,
Though You’d die as a man.
You faced that death that we might live,
That was always the plan.

I hear You pray in the garden,
And I still weep with shame.
For I’m the reason You were there,
Savior, I am to blame.

Matthew 26:36
Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.”
