Where My Treasure Is - Re-Posted

I stored up treasures on this earth
I locked them safe away,
And yet, despite my diligence
They still fell to decay.

But when I stored up heaven’s wealth
By serving here on earth,
I found my treasure never failed,
It only grew in worth.

Matthew 6:19-20
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Seeking Peace - Re-Posted

I took a breath and sought the peace
I only find with You.
The world was jumbled all around;
The chaos grew and grew.
Until I stepped out of the whirl
And sought the quiet place,
Where I know that I can be sure
I’ll always see Your face.

I call to You, You hear my voice,
I feel my pulse grow calm.
The world may rack my mind with stress
But your love is the balm.
So I will sit where your peace blooms
And let the chaos go.
I find, most days, I need some time
Where only peace can grow.

Psalm 34:14
14 Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

As You Watch Over Me - Re-Posted

Lord, You 've watched over me always,
Through my youthful errors
Into the follies of old age,
With all its own terrors.

I know that I look back sometimes,
Ashamed of where I’ve been,
And of the life that I have lived,
So filled with pain and sin.

But You don’t seem to see those sins
As clearly as You see
The love and faith that I have learned,
The wiser, older me.

I thank You, Lord, that You give me
A grace beyond my due
And that I have learned to rejoice
Living within Your view.

Psalm 25:7
Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you, Lord, are good.

A Bitter Web - Re-Posted

Anger weaves a bitter web
And poison beads each thread;
Poison which scarce harms the prey, but
Kills the weaver instead.

For bitterness tears at the heart
When anger festers there;
A heart thus rendered impotent
Can never learn to care.

So guard your heart from bitterness
And turn your wrath to grace.
Weave not the poison in your heart,
Let His peace take its place.

Psalm 37: 8
Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.

Answering His Command - Re-Posted

The moon and stars dance through the night
In patterns that He laid,
And nothing can compare with them
Which mortal man has made.

We are the masters of this world
Because He says it’s so,
But we are insignificant
Where planets come and go.

The force that shapes the universe
Is born within His hand,
And all that has been or will be
Answers to His command.

Job 38:31-33
“Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades? Can you loosen Orion’s belt? Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear with its cubs? Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you set up God’s dominion over the earth?

Faithful, Despite Change - Re-Posted

They grow where they were first planted,
Though everything has changed.
They have not waivered through the years
From how they were arranged.

The garden is no longer there,
Grass grows all through the bed.
And yet they still turn up to Him
Each ruffled golden head.

There is a faithfulness in them
That I should understand.
Consistent in a changing world,
Their joy’s in His command.

Job 23:10-11
But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold. My feet have closely followed his steps; I have kept to his way without turning aside.

Still Seeking You - Re-Posted

I'm always searching for something, Lord,
Often I don't know what.
I keep thinking there's something more
Than all that I have got.

I fear it's greed that drives me thus
To long for something more,
For You have given me a home
Upon a peaceful shore
With shelter for my restless head
And sustenance galore
For both my body and my mind.
I have no need for more.

And yet I feel that longing still,
So tell me what to do,
For I am certain what I seek
Is only found in You.

Psalm 40:16
But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, “The Lord is great!”

My Joyful Noise - Re-Posted

My voice is not that pretty, Lord,
No one asks for my song,
And yet you gave this voice to me
So I will sing along.

I know that all this earth can hear
Is squawking that’s off key,
But when you listen to my song
All that you hear is me.

You hear the love that’s in my heart,
The faith that sees me through,
And even my old, croaky voice
Sounds glorious to you.

Psalm 95:2
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
