Lest We Lose Track of Our Blessings

I needed a small reminder
Of all in life that’s sweet,
Of all the things I’d overlooked
When this day was complete.

The many tasks still left undone,
The bills still not yet paid,
The goals, as yet unaccomplished,
All the mistakes I made

Were all that I could call to mind
As I stepped out to think,
Until a splash of vibrant gold
Zipped by, quick as a wink.

He settled on a nearby tree
And sang so merrily.
I needed a small reminder
And you sent one to me.

Simple Beauty

For all the elegance we feign,
All our sophistication,
We still fall short of true beauty
As found in His creation.

We fashion granite statuettes
Our canvases capture grace,
But we can’t fully duplicate
The beauty of a flower’s face.

It’s hard, sometimes, to understand
We’re but a vain pretender;
Though we aspire to create
Beauty of rarest splendor,
We can never quite emulate
That which God can render.

Within Your Creation

Within your creation
I find the peace I seek;
Sitting in its silence
I hear you as you speak.

Though I’m of the body,
I sometimes seek the calm
Of complete seclusion,
Away from choir and psalm.

Where your hand is present,
And your word stirs the air,
I know that I’ll find you,
Because you’re waiting there.

Micah 6:8

I want to follow in your word,
Have faith and see it though.
I want to live the life you taught.
I’d like to walk with you.
I need to practice humbleness,
Respect and mercy, too.
I want to live as you command
And humbly walk with you.
I have so much I need to learn,
There’s much I need to do,
But most of all I want to ask
If I can walk with you.

Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Psalm 98:4

The crazy pace I always run
Seems to keep me from you,
And yet you keep your eye on me.
I’m grateful that you do.
And there, amid the crazy whirl,
I stop to regain poise,
And realize you bring me peace.
I make a joyful noise.

Oh sing with me, all of mankind,
Thank God for all your joys.
Step back from chaos for a while
And make a joyful noise.

Psalm 98:4
4 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth,
 burst into jubilant song with music;

Matthew 6:34

Worrying about tomorrow,
When it is not yet here,
Can rob today’s accomplishments
Of all their joy and cheer.

Not that tomorrow won’t have woes,
But they can be faced then.
There is no point in worrying
Until those woes begin.

So take the blessings of each day,
Work hard and do your best.
Take pride in what you’ve done today.
Give worrying a rest.

Matthew 6:34
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Beauty and Thorns

Tomorrow is a precious bloom
Just waiting to unfold;
It hides a fragrance rich and sweet,
With thorns too sharp to hold.
But, if you want to know the sweet
You have to bear the stings,
So boldly face the thorns that come,
For all the joy life brings.

Isaiah 46:4

Oh Lord, some days I feel so old,
As if I’m at the end.
The world lays heavy on my back
And I could use a friend.

It’s only your voice in my ear,
The promise you fulfill
Of love beyond my every need,
That keeps me going still.

I feel those days weigh down on me
As the worries pile on,
I know i have no choices left,
But all my strength is gone.

If I did not have your strong hand
To lift me when I fall,
I don’t think I could stand again;
I couldn’t even crawl.

But you sustain me in my pan,
You lift me when I’m weak.
You are my shield when I’m afraid;
My joy when all is bleak.

Oh Lord, some days I feel so old,
And life weighs heavily,
But that’s when I feel most assured
You’re standing close to me.

Isaiah 46:4
Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

I Seek You, Lord

I turn my face to you in faith,
I’ll seek you all my days.
I will follow the path you walked
And lift my voice in praise.

Oh, let your light shine down on me,
Your glory touch my face,
That all may know I dwell in you
And your word I embrace.

I keep my eyes turned to your face
My heart is filled with joy
For your strength is my refuge, Lord,
Your wisdom I employ.

Psalm 105:4
Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.

The Pillars of My Life

You are the bulwark upon which I stand,
Without you my faith would crumble.
You are the hand that keeps me on the path,
Without you my feet would stumble.
You are the strength when all else has failed me,
Without you I could not go forth.
You are the pillars that hold up my world,
Without you my soul has no worth.

Psalm 75:3
When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm.
