Keep Me On Your Path

There is a path I walk each day
Around a quiet lake.
It reminds me of His blessings
With every step I take.

At one point on the path there is
A concrete overflow.
It isn’t part of the walkway,
But that’s the way I go.

The pathway is level and smooth,
The gully lets me climb,
Yet, therein lies a parable
That I will make a rhyme.

When I am walking close to Him
I see the path clearly,
And when I head off of the path,
I’m not where I’m to be.

There are dangers that could lie there,
Snakes being one of them.
A reminder of mankind’s fate,
That lesson, harsh and grim.

Yet, I always get back on track,
It’s where I want to be.
Walking the path He marked on earth,
Following faithfully.

Lord, help me stay close by Your side
Along life’s winding trail,
And set me back upon Your path,
If I’m about to fail.

For where You walked, I want to walk,
As You’ve called me to do,
That, when I come to the trail’s end,
I’m standing next to You.

John 12:26
If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
