He called to me and I heard Him,
A broken, sinful child,
For He came not to the perfect,
But to perfect the wild.
He came to teach us how to love,
To show each other grace,
And let go of our arrogance.
Our pride was our disgrace.
We’d built up walls that we called laws
Until we couldn’t see
The laws that mattered most of all.
His laws of true mercy.
He came for those who weren’t righteous,
In other words, for all.
For there’s no righteousness in those
Born after Adam’s fall.
And since His purpose was mercy
He made the sacrifice
That we, the lost, might understand
A love beyond all price.
Matthew 9:13
Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not
sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
