Psalm
2:1-4
Why do the nations conspire and the people plot in vain? The kings of the
earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his
anointed, saying, “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord
scoffs at them
We
plot and plan to make our name,
We
struggle to retain
The
wealth, the plaudits of the world;
The
glory that we feign.
We
seek to claim authority
That
we cannot sustain
And
that pride will destroy us yet;
The
soul’s eternal bane.
For
all our pride, our wealth and fame,
Our
boasting is in vain,
And
God must think us silly fools
To
trust those to remain.
Step
back from the abyss of pride,
It
is a lethal chain
That
binds the soul that God would save
To
Satan’s cruel pain.
