Doing It Wrong

I know I’ve asked for patience, Lord,

And said, “Please, right away.”
I know I’ve asked to trust You more,
“But please do things my way.”
I know I’ve asked, “Please give me peace,
But also the last say”.
And there was the time I asked, “Please,
Lord, take my sins away.”
 
I think I’m missing the whole point
Of what I’ve asked from You.
Although I’ve done it politely,
I’ve had no follow through.
And, until I learn to give back
A heart faithful and true,
You can give me all that I ask
And I will still fail You.
