Proverbs 8:27-31

I gaze across the rippled waves
That reach beyond my sight,
With every new horizon there
Proclaiming your great might
And filling my heart with wellsprings
Of absolute delight.

You laid the earth out to your plan,
You raised the mountains high.
You spread the oceans shore to shore
Beneath a changing sky.

You cast your eye across the void,
You marked it with your hand.
You raised the mountains from the sea
And fixed the surging land.

You filled the seas with roving life,
The air with joyful song.
You breathed upon the continents
Where life began to throng.
Then you shaped man to share your love,
Rejoicing all along.

Proverbs 8:27-31
27 I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep,
28 when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep,
29 when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.
30 Then I was constantly at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, 31 rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind.

Flying on Another's Wings

Lost between the clear blue sky
And the icy mountains,
Dancing on the winter winds,
Tossed on airy fountains,
I watch you rising on swift wings
And feel my spirit fly.
Though I may never race the wind,
I still can touch the sky.

Lord, thank you for the chance to soar,
My heart beating with glee,
Into the windy, winter sky
Above the frothing sea.

The Refelction Lingers

Don’t ever let the chance to help
Slip right through your fingers,
Long after a good deed’s been done
Its reflection lingers.
The kindly word, the cheerful smile,
The hand up from a fall
Is remembered for much longer
Than any act at all.
For it is not the deed itself
That leaves a lasting trace,
It is the love you chose to share
That lights up someone’s face.

Psalm 55:6-8

Oh Lord, please help me fly again
To rise up in the sky,
To slip away from all the tears
The weary world may cry.

I know my wings can carry me
Wherever I would go
But I feel as if they were clipped
A long, long time ago.

I cannot rise above the fear,
I cannot flee the pain.
If I could fly, I’d leave this hurt
And never come again,

But such is not the way of things,
I cannot flee the storm.
So I will hide beneath your wing
And shelter from all harm.

Psalm 55:6-8
6 I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest.
7 I would flee far away
   and stay in the desert;

8 I would hurry to my place of shelter,
far from the tempest and storm.”

Stop Squawking and Sing

Today the ruckus of the world
Intruded on my mind.
I found myself surrendering
To things I’d left behind,

To angry thoughts and frustrations
That I’d long since let go.
And I displayed a harsh disdain
That I should never show.

Then I looked up and saw your face
And realized my shame.
I asked you to renew my faith,
Acknowledging the blame,

That I might turn again to you
And make the better choice
To cease my squawking and instead
Lift up a grateful voice

Amos 5: 23-24
23 Away with the noise of your songs!
I will not listen to the music of your harps.
24 But let justice roll on like a river,
   righteousness like a never-failing stream!

Friends

In a darkening, gloomy world,
Where light is hard to find,
There are always those precious rays,
The cheery, hopeful kind.
The kind that lift a weary heart,
Or dry a pain filled tear.
The kind that always make you smile
Whenever they are near.
I find I look for those bright rays,
I’m draw to their warm light
Just like a moth to cheery flame,
But I think that’s alright.
For in their light new dreams can bloom
And in their warmth hopes grow.
The richest laughter springs to life
Within their loving glow.

1 John 4:11
Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Psalm 54:2

Within my silence is a prayer
And you hear every word
The little things that trouble me,
The hopeless, the absurd;
The gratitude I always feel
For all you give to me,
And for the beauty of the world
Around me that I see.

Oh Lord, I know you hear my words
And listen to my heart.
I know that you are always near
Whenever my tears start.
You never make me beg your ear,
You listen patiently.
As my thoughts ramble, fear to fear,
You’re there to comfort me.

And so it is that I can pray
Without using a word,
Because I know, silent or not,
My prayers are still heard.

Psalm 54:2
Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth.

Psalm 26:8

I love waking to your glory,
Rising up with the sun,
Standing beneath your handiwork,
Awed by all you have done.

I hear the morning breeze singing.
The chorus of your dawn
Rustles across the line of trees
Where the first light is drawn.

The face of the cool, still waters
Marks your cathedral’s dome.
Splendid is your creation, Lord,
Glorious is your home.

Psalm 26:8
LORD, I love the house where you live, the place where your glory dwells.

Psalm 111:10

Fearsome is the face of God,
Breathtaking in its might.
Yet, unyielding is his love,
His wisdom is my light.
I praise him with all my heart
And dwell within his sight,
Praying some day I too may
Join him in his flight.

Psalm 111:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Worries Enough for Today

I don’t know what might lie ahead,
I feel so unprepared.
Yet I can’t just step out and change
And that leaves me quite scared.

I’m bound to promises I’ve made,
A task I must see through,
But it won’t leave me well positioned
For what I’ll need to do.

Sometimes I worry about “then”,
Though now is right at hand,
And you have kept me safe thus far.
You’d think I’d understand

That I should do all that I can
And leave the rest to you,
Because you’ve led me safely here
And you will see me through.

So when the panic starts to loom
Remind me that you’re there.
I have worries enough today,
Tomorrow’s yours to bear.

Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
