Permission to Remember Joy

The world lies heavy on my heart
And heavy are the chains
That bind this blithe and cheerful heart
To all its woes and pains.

But I have spilt all of the tears
That I can spill today,
And I shall leave them where they fell,
Turn and walk away
From sorrows that I cannot cure
From fears I can’t allay,
And grant my heart permission to
Remember joy today!
