Love Your Enemies

I seek the silence in the night,
I long for solitude,
For I am living in a world
That’s grown callus and rude.

In many ways things have improved,
But in some ways they’re worse.
We cannot find a common ground
With those at whom we curse.

We think that we can make this world
Into a better place,
Without making room in our hearts
For forgiveness and grace.

Is it from arrogance and pride
That we choose not to see
The world we’re making falls well short
Of what the world should be?

I know the promise was given,
The sacrifice was made,
But we are still not living up
To the price that was paid.

Matthew 5:44
But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.

Rejoice With Him

I spent all day looking for You,
I thought I’d hear Your voice.
But evening time came rolling in
And it left me no choice
But to reach out in prayerful song
To faithfully rejoice,

I realized, as I sang out,
A soft sound touched my ear,
Your voice as You whispered to me
An answer sweet and clear,
I’d listened so hard for Your voice
That I just couldn’t hear.

So now, I’ll sing with all my heart
And praise You every day
Just for the joy that it brings me
To send some joy Your way!
I’ve learned that when I’m rejoicing
I can hear what You say!

Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.

Give From Love

You do not give to please yourself,
But to bring others joy.
You do not lend a helping hand
To earn an “Atta boy”!

You do not bind a broken heart
With praises for yourself,
And you don’t lead a lost lamb home
For trophies on a shelf.

Blessings should not be offered up
To earn credit or fame,
But given as we’ve received them,
In the grace of His name.

Of all the lessons I have learned
One stands out, I believe,
Don’t count the blessings that you give,
Only those you receive,

Matthew 6:3
But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
