The rain poured down, it was chilly and grey;
Really a miserable sort of day.
The call came in from not too far away,
He was stuck in the mud and in the way!
He needed some help to pull off the deed
Of getting unstuck & with urgent speed.
I recognized, it’s a true friend indeed
Who knows he can call on you when in need.
We charged the champion built for the task,
Always ready for whatever we ask.
Decked with a mower, no cape and a mask,
And no need for glory in which to bask.
He rolled off to help with never a word,
But he did seem proud, as his diesel purred,
That he was the one, when problems occurred,
That everyone looked to, the one preferred.
How like the friend trapped in the mud and rain
Are we that call God again and again;
And how much more joyful does he remain
To be trusted to help us with our pain.
So turn to him, when your need is most strong,
He’s been waiting there for you all along
To call for his help when it’s all gone wrong……
And for thanks when life’s joys stir up a song!
