Seeking Him

 My eyes were weak this morning, Lord,

And everything was blurred

I thought I’d miss seeing your face….

A thought that was absurd.

For I called out to you in faith

And, through your boundless grace,

You showed me what I longed to see,

A clear view of your face!

Jeremiah 29:13

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

The Perfect Prayer

Sing in the midst of destruction,

Sing when you’re lost in despair

Sing when you can’t find a reason

For song is the perfect prayer

Sing, to the Lord, of your troubles

Sing when your heart’s full of woe

Sing with the faith that He’ll hear you

For your Father loves you so

Long Flight Home

 

When the way seems far too long,

Flying into the wind,

I just remind myself that you

Are waiting at the end

To welcome me into your arms,

My weary heart to mend.

Psalm 119:28

My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.

The Mighty and the Meek

You cast the stars across the skies

And formed the burning sun,

The mountains rose up from the sea

When you ordered it done.

There is no force in all the worlds

As mighty as your hand,

Nor one that holds more carefully

The least in all the land.

Lead Me Where You Need Me

Please lead me where you need me, Lord,

And I will follow you;

Just tell me what needs to be done

And that’s what I will do.

For you have never asked of me

What you can’t bring me through,

So lead me where you need me, Lord,

And I will follow you.

Let My Deeds Bring You Praise

 

Let me not grow vain, my Lord,

About the things I do;

Let any good work that is done,

Be done in praise of you.

For, only when I work in you

And follow where you lead,

Will I have any cause for pride

In any word or deed.

Thank you for keeping me, today,

Tucked close beneath your wing,

And thank you for the calming peace

That answered prayers bring.

I know my prayers were quite small,

My needs are not that large,

But seeing them answered that way

Reminds me you’re in charge.

And, also, it reminded me

That you are God, Most High,

And I am your beloved child,

I have no need to cry!

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Keeping Focused

I try to focus on a time

When things won’t hurt me so

I know that day will come along,

But I’ve a while to go.

I know that there are blessings in

Each day that you give me,

But I feel so alone some days,

Despair’s all I can see.

So I don’t waste time focusing

On what I’m going through

I focus on the days to come…

I keep my eyes on You!

Trapped By My Fears

These days I’m often overwhelmed,

I want to run and hide,

But, instead, Lord, I look to you

To be my strength and guide.

You lead me through the twining reeds

Of doubt and of despair;

You stay by me until I’m free

Of soul destroying care.

And when the snares of daily fears

Threaten to hem me in,

You remind me that you are Lord;

With your help I will win.

Jeremiah 23:24

Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord.

I Offer This Day

Quietly, Lord, I bow my head

And offer you this day;

Please help me make it easier

For someone on my way,

Help me bring joy to those who weep

And wipe their tears away,

Let me reflect your guiding light

For one who’s gone astray,

And when I find myself dismayed

Give me kind words to say.

Oh Lord, I offer you this day;

Help me live it well, I pray.

Tears Strung on Light

 

I weep at some point every day,

My tears pool in your hand,

But you turn each one into pearls

Because you understand.

I hide my tears within the mist,

While walking in the rain,

And I would never let the world

Have a glimpse of my pain.

But you see my tears, as they fall,

For what they’ll someday be

When you string them on threads of light

And give them back to me!

Psalm 73:26

Though I look mighty at first glance,

I’m weaker than I seem;

The strength that you perceive in me

Is a façade, a dream.

But within me there beats a heart

Whose strength comes straight from Him.

So I will not give up or quit

When life grows hard and grim.

I’ll call upon His mighty name

And rise up in the storm,

For He gave me a servant’s heart

And a fighter’s form.

Psalm 73:26

    My flesh and my heart may fail,

    but God is the strength of my heart

    and my portion forever.

Standing Watch

Oh Lord, I’ve been on watch so long;

I’m weary, heart and soul,

I need to feel your healing love,

The love that makes me whole.

My job is to keep watch on those

Whom you’ve placed in my care,

But I am stretched so thin right now

I have no strength to spare.

I don’t intend to fail in this,

The task you’ve given me,

But I fear I am losing much

Of whom I need to be.

I’ll stand my watch and serve in faith

As you’ve asked me to do,

But, Lord, I ask you for the strength

I’ll need to see it through.

Let There Be Light

 

The light rose from the darkened void

To warm the new formed earth

And each dawn brings a reminder

Of God’s plan for that birth.

Genesis 1: 3-4

3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

Love

Offers itself in sacrifice

And lifts you when you’re weak;

It holds you when you need to cry

And knows just what you seek

Love

Never vacillates in its faith,

Even when yours is frail;

It puts you first in all its plans

And its strength will not fail.

Love

Is the safest place to keep

The dreams and hopes you hold,

For you’re more precious in its world

Than riches of pure gold.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Shining Through the Mist

 

 Within the mists I see your face,

The calm within the storm.

My one hope to feel that peace is

To emulate your form.

So I will shine when all my world

Is cast about with haze,

And when the storms surround me close

I’ll mirror you with praise!

Can turn the course of someone’s day

That lightened my day’s yoke.

Prayers Unspoken

The words come hard to me tonight,

They’re hidden deep inside

And locked within my weary heart

Along with tears uncried.

I have no problems you can’t fix,

No hurt that you can’t heal,

But right now even little things

Hurt more than I dare feel.

So much seems to be piling up

That I’m too lost to speak.

Oh Lord please hear my silent prayers,

For my words are too weak.

Let Your Light Shine

Lord, I love walking in your light,

To feel it soaking in,

But mostly, Lord, I love that you

Make it shine forth again.

The light that you spill down on me,

Reflects back from my face,

So, even those who won’t see you,

Can see your loving grace.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Teach me what I need to know,

Direct me where I ought to go,

Strengthen me that I might grow;

These blessings, Lord, on me, bestow.

Thank you for the time you spent

Just being here with me.

The conversation and the meal

Were all I’d hoped they’d be,

For they were moments from your day

You could have spent elsewhere.

By sharing that time here with me

You let me know you care.

But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God.

Rejoice in the Light

Gather together to praise his name,

Lift up your voices and sing,

For he is the light that fills the world,

Turning winter to spring.

Gather together and rejoice,

Blossoming n his light,

For his love is a gift of life

Embrace it with delight.

Light in the Darkness

There, through the tempest coming on,

I saw a gleaming light

And understood that light can live

Within the darkest night,

That hope can thrive within despair,

And fearlessness in fright.

In that moment I ceased to weep;

I knew I’d be alright.

2 Corinthians 4:18

 

 Today the world fell into place,

Though chaos swirled around.

And though I felt that tears might come

They never hit the ground,

For through it all I felt your love

Shine down upon my face

And all the chaos of the day

Melted before your grace.

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

My Roots Are In The Rock

 

When I am rooted in His word

No storm can tear me down.

My roots remain fast in the rock

Though wind whips at my crown.

I grow, protected from the worst,

And reach up for the sky

Knowing that, through the wind and rain,

My roots are strong and dry.

The rock is my stronghold and home;

When all is said and done,

I’m rooted fast within the rock

And growing in the Son!

Psalm 18:1-2

I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Keeping Watch

While others sleep, I’ll watch for You;

I long to see Your face.

I’ll watch until You come for me

And I live in Your Grace.

While others sleep, I’ll watch for You;

I’ll keep my lamp light bright

That I may see You when you come

And not fear the worst night.

While others sleep, I’ll watch for You,

I’ll seek You every day.

While others sleep I’ll stay awake
To watch and praise and pray.

Luke 12: 35-36

 “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him.

Matthew 10: 29-31

In the vastness of creation,

I am but a tiny thing,

Yet you bless me beyond measure

Giving me new songs to sing.

You see the cares that I will face

And move them from my path;

You still the torrents rising up

Before I feel their wrath.

I am but one small beating heart,

Yet you show me such grace;

Into your warm embrace.

Matthew 10: 29-31

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Let Me Follow You

Oh, let me follow you, My Lord,

Wherever you may lead,

And let me do it in true faith,

Just as you have decreed.

Lord, let me travel at your side

And close beneath your wing,

For only when I’m near to you

Will my heart learn to sing!

Lord, keep me by you all my days

Don’t let me start to stray,

For I was formed within your love;

That’s where I want to stay!
