Give It To God

As day slid slowly to the sea,
Its colors touched the sky.
It seemed as if the soft breeze spoke
As it went drifting by.

“Don’t worry about what’s not done,
Just start again at dawn.
The only way to finish it
Is rise and carry on.

Don’t let the concerns of the day
Hold you back from your sleep,
Tomorrow will hold worries, too,
And promises to keep.

Don’t lie awake with burdened mind
For what might lie in store.
Tomorrow is still in God’s hands;
He offers so much more.”

I sat and watched the sun go down
Across the twilight sea,
Then gave my worries up to God,
Who gave peace back to me.

I Will Rise Up

I will rise up to meet You, Lord,
For you are my delight
And there’s nothing I’d rather do
Than live within Your sight.

I’ll follow where You lead me, Lord,
And I will not delay,
For You are where I long to be.
Let me not go astray.

Oh, call to me, Lord, here I am,
I’ll rise and come with You.
There is no place I will not go
If You are going too.

I will rise up to meet You, Lord,
I’ll hurry to Your side
And in the shadow of Your wing

I’ll be content to bide.

James 1:6

Call out upon the Lord in faith,
And know that He will hear.
For faith will ground you in a storm,
Turning back waves of fear
Until you no longer can doubt
That God is standing near.

But if you ask without belief,
Without faith in your heart,
The storms will toss you in its waves
Until you’re torn apart
And lost within the drifting tides,
Blown off your course and chart.

So call upon the Lord in faith
Believing in His grace
And He will bring you through the winds
Into a peace filled place.

James 1:6
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

Your Promise

I’m given to believing in
The promises You’ve made.
Although I stumble, now and then,
My heart has never strayed.
For You are faithful all the time,
Though my faith’s often frayed,
And I will hold unswervingly
To the promise You’ve made.

Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

Redeemed, Repentant and Risen

Redeemed, Repentant and Risen
And all were through His Grace
Redeemed, Repentant and Risen
Washed free of my disgrace
Redeemed, Repentant and Risen
In Him I have a place
Redeemed, Repentant and Risen
Grateful for His embrace!

Matthew 28:6
He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

It Is Done

As, silently, the moon rose up
Above the waiting earth,
All of creation held its breath
Awaiting His rebirth.

Not since the first words that God spoke,
Forming life from a thought,
Has any gift given to man
Been so profoundly brought.

Although we know the time is nigh
Still it is not yet here,
And so we wait, much like the moon,
As Easter’s dawn draws near.

Spring is Near

What is the color of delight,
The fragrance of pure glee?
What is the sound of happiness
As it burns bright in me?
What is it that makes springtime sweet,
Despite its rainy chill,
And why do I feel so renewed
When spring sits on my sill?

1 Peter 5:7

Though the world is fraught with trouble
And the night seems over long
Don’t forget that God still loves you
And the dawn will come along.

As your troubles mount around you
Piling up to bear you down
Lift them up, each one, to heaven,
Trading them in for a crown.

Lay your worries and your burdens
On the ground before the cross
Taking up, instead, redemption,
Choose victory over loss.

1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Your Grace

Lord, let my praise reflect Your Grace
For that was what it took
To make perfection from a day
That seemed lost, at first look.

The chaos of my busy world,
With all its stress and doubt,
Was distracting me from the peace
That You are all about.

And as I reached the frazzled end
Of what peace I had left,
I realized how lost I felt,
Dismayed and quite bereft.

It was at that precise moment
That Your Grace touched my heart
And I found deep within my soul
A place where peace could start.

I stopped and let the busy world
Settle back into place
And then I moved on through my day
Living within Your Grace.

Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Keeping Watch

I watch for You in day’s first light
As You’ve asked me to do,
And when the evening breezes rise
I expect to see You.

I linger right beside the door
In case You might be near,
And listen for the whisper of
Your voice within my ear.

Each minutes means You have not come,
At least You haven’t yet,
But I am watchful, as You’ve asked,
And I will not forget.

I know that You will come for me
But I do not know when.
So I will keep watch for You, Lord,
And I will see You then.

Matthew 25:13
Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Nourishment

I feed my body every day,
It nourishes my strength.
But, in the end, it’s not enough,
My strength will fail at length.

Yet, when I read The Word of God,
It nourishes my soul,
And though my strength and body fail,
My soul will remain whole.

Matthew 4:4
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

All Along

They brought their palms to praise His name
Following where He led,
And, while they sang and danced for joy,
He knew what lay ahead.

He knew He faced crucifixion,
A painful, brutal death.
Praying that God would forgive us
Between each gasp for breath.

He knew that He would suffer more
Than a mortal man should,
And He knew He would not turn back,
Though He might wish He could.

He knew all this, yet He rode on
Among the cheering throng
Who waved their palms to honor Him.
He knew it all along.

John 12:13
They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the king of Israel!

The Busy Day

Oh Lord, I’m weary from this day
And hunger for some sleep,
But I have so much still to do
And I’m in way too deep.

Today has been a blessing, Lord,
Of that there is no doubt.
Yet even blessings can leave me
Exhausted and worn out,

And there is still much to be done
Before I am all through.
That’s why I’m taking this moment
To ask for help from You.

So Lord, I ask You for the strength
I’ll need to carry on
And for the promise of true rest
When this day’s chores are gone.

Pondering and Praying

I thought that I was doing well,
Helping out where I could,
But it is not for me to choose.
God judges who is good.

I think that I know what is right,
I speak the truth aloud,
But I am not the arbiter.
I’m not that vain or proud.

I do my best to walk the path
I think You want me to,
But I am broken, of this world.
The true path lies in You.

So I will help and speak and walk,
Praying each step I take,
That, in the end, You’ll find my heart
Weighs more than each mistake.

Proverbs 21:2
A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.

Romans 15:13

Let the dark night slip on by,
The Lord is with you there,
And He will not abandon you
To darkness and despair.
He holds you in His open hand,
Protecting you with care,
Until the darkness burns away
Within dawn’s golden air.

So let His peace touch you with joy,
Let hope fill you tonight,
And when dawn brushes through the sky
Rejoice in Heaven’s light.

Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Working Hard in the Natural

I worry about where we are
And where we’re bound from here,
But I have chosen not to live
My life frozen in fear.
So I’ll work hard, do all I can,
Push through and do my best
To do what I can do from here,
Then trust You with the rest.

Psalm 118:8
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans.

A Jeweled Curtain

It was only a spider’s web
Woven between two rails,
Marking the hours of labor,
Where persistence prevails.
It wasn’t the sort of display
To distract from the view,
Until I noticed on each strand
The rippled rows of dew.

I bet God set that spider to
Spinning its web right there,
And then He placed the sparkling mist
Upon each thread with care,
To form a simple miracle
For one He knew would see
And recognize it as a gift
That He’d placed there for me.

Until Then

It’s the moments that we treasure,
Every precious memory,
That will hold our hearts together
Through the days that feel empty
Until we meet beyond forever,
Loving for eternity.

I won’t spend this life in weeping,
Though your dear face I can't see,
For I know that heaven holds you
And someday will call to me.
Then I’ll turn my eyes to find you
Smiling, waiting joyfully.

Tail Wind

The storm winds whipped across the skies
And ravaged white capped surf,
While rain poured down, turning to mud
The sodden, puddled turf.

But I know that God works for good
In all He does on earth
And, despite the storms in my life,
I’m blessed beyond my worth.

So when the storm winds gather in
A grey and dreary sky,
I know that God has sent them to
Help me learn how to fly!

Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

My Prayer In Hard Times

Lord of Grace,
I thank You for the sanctuary of Your love,
The strength of Your comforting arm,
The sheltering place beneath Your wing,
And the sure knowledge that,
When tomorrow’s sun rises,
You will still be there with me.
Amen

Catching Up

We hadn’t spoken in a year,
Time had passed so quickly,
But when we had a chance to talk
We did so joyously.

We forget how easy it is
To be close, though apart,
With one who life has been entwined
Forever in our heart.

In His Hand

I placed my life within His hand,
He held me so gently,
Lifting me from my sinful past
Until my soul was free.

I’ve seen what life is meant to be,
Living within His hand,
And, though it took me by surprise,
This life is what He planned.

There is no way I can return
To what I used to be,
And I am grateful for the love
That won’t ask that of me.

Psalm 31:5
Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, Lord, my faithful God.

Rain's End

There has to be an end to rain
The sun will shine once more,
But I am not sure if I’ll drown
With that end still in store.

I’m trying to keep my head up
Above the rising tide
While even now the rain pours down
And I am swept aside.

But I believe the sun still shines
Behind the rain filled skies
And someday I’ll see it again
With own rain streaked eyes.

Until that day, I’ll live in faith
Despite the driving rain
Believing without any doubt
The sun will come again.

Look To The Lord

Look to the Lord in the morning
Look to the Lord each night
Look to the Lord in your sorrow
Look to the Lord in delight
Look to the Lord when you’re weary
Look to the Lord when strong
Look to the Lord in everything…
He’s been there all along.

Psalm 105:4
Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.

Harsh Words

When that thought that I shouldn’t think
Begins to form a word,
Please put Your hand across my mouth
That it might not be heard.
For there is much power to wound
In some words that I say,
And I should be more careful in
The words that I give play.
Yet I am human and I fail
To remember that thought
Often enough to know regret
For the pain I have wrought.
So, Lord, I turn to You for help,
When thoughts pop in my head
That ought to never be spoken,
Teach me silence instead.

Psalm 64:3
They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.

Within Your View

You have watched over me always,
Through my youthful errors
Into the follies of old age,
With all its own terrors.

I know that I look back sometimes
Ashamed of where I’ve been
And of the life that I have lived,
Filled with the pain of sin.

But You don’t seem to see those sins
As clearly as You see
The love and faith that I have learned,
The wiser older me.

I thank You, Lord, that You give me
A grace beyond my due
And that I have learned to rejoice
Living within Your view.

Psalm 25:7
Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you, Lord, are good.

Something Simple ... Because

Children’s laughter and butterflies,
Soft white clouds in deep blue skies,
A sleepy child and lullabies,
All sweet delights, you may surmise,
That bring a smile to weary eyes.
And tonight I needed that!
Thank You, Lord.

Walking With the Wise

I number among my blessings
The company I keep,
Those who walk with me in my joy
And hold me when I weep.
Though they may not look much like gold,
They are treasure to me,
For they have placed their faith in Him,
Where my faith needs to be.
I know someday we’ll reach the place
Where our paths have to part,
But I expect that their wisdom
Will linger in my heart.

Proverbs 13:20 Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.
